The Acquisition of Bias

The word 'prejudice' comes from the Latin term pre-judicium, which means 'pre-judgment'. Devoid of examining a person in the or her own worth, one has currently adopted a poor attitude that implies a judgment. A prejudice is known as a mixture of values and feelings that predisposes people to act in response positively or negatively to members of a particular group. Prejudice is identified as a positive or perhaps negative frame of mind based on details or knowledge that is either reasonless, unrelated to reality, or a distortion of fact, and that is discriminatorily general to all the members of any group. As with other perceptions, prejudice may be thought of as composed of three elements: classical conditioning, operant fitness, and cognitive-social learning.

Time-honored conditioning is a basic form of learning through which an organism involuntarily learns to associate stimuli. A previously fairly neutral stimulus is usually paired with a great unconditioned government to generate a conditioned response that is identical or very similar to the unconditioned response. Classical health is considered to be a main factor in misjudgment because the behavior has to be learned. The evidence that supports this kind of idea is from the Clark study inside the 1930's. This study revealed that kids (Caucasian and African American) both desired a 'white' doll and proclaimed the 'black' doll to be negative. This response is discovered because for whatever reason white is usually looked upon because superior and black is a color that symbolizes immorality. Although this kind of study was conducted years ago, an autoresponder study in the 1980's turned out that the majority of children still desired the white-colored doll. Most classical health can be seen during childhood because many children will learn to respond to stimuli in the same ways as their father and mother would.
